Trying to Love Mill Hill’s Owlets

Mill Hill released some new Spring designs for the 2015 line up, including a series of little owlets still in their eggshells. I love Mill Hill kits and I love owls, but I’m not sure if I love these little owlets or not. I like them, but I’m not sure I love them.

The turquoise guy pictured here at left is definitely my favorite of the six. (Finn Owlet)

I get it, Spring, renewal, easter, pastely colors, etc… but I’m having a hard time loving the owls in the eggs. I guess maybe I just want to see wings and feathers and majestic owl beauty. Lately it seems like owls are being represented as cutesy and colorful everywhere, almost to the point of annoying and tiresome. (I said almost, I don’t think I’ll ever be tired of seeing owls represented in art and needlework, even if they’re pastel and cute.)

What do YOU think of the new Owlet designs? Which one is your favorite? Leave a comment below…

  1. they are all cute, but Huey and Finn are my favorites

Violet is my favorite by far. I’m thinking the egg shells are too ornate and they look more like Easter eggs rather than something a baby owl just emerged from. I’m on the fence with these too!

  3. Katherine via STNA's Facebook Fan Page says:

I think Violet or Emma. I like the eyes open more than closed. But I had to look at them for awhile and decide which ones I liked better, a bit too long to decide that. My mom loves owls so I always keep an eye out for new owl patterns. I’ll probably make her one of those two.

  4. Pamela via STNA's Facebook Fan Page says:

I like the eyes open. Violet is my favorite

  5. Robin via STNA's Facebook Fan Page says:

I love the funky green shell.

  6. Sarah via STNA's Facebook Fan Page says:

I wish they didn’t have the easter egg shells. It makes them too seasonal. I’d rather it was a full owl.

  7. Stephanie says:

I like Finn, Kiwi & Violet. I think they are cute and like the different shell patterns.

  8. My favorite would be Finn as well but I’m not sure I’m crazy about the color schemes on the others.

The Craftways Christmas book for last Christmas has a cute Woodland owl in it.

  9. They are all cute, but my favorite is the one with his eyes fully opened.

  10. May Olson says:

These owls are adorable and the color way seems to be trending now in crochet and knitting.

  11. I am not sure I like the owls in the eggs. Seems like it should be rabbits; not owls. All are colorful and fun to look at

Bye for now and hope everyone has a good week!!!
