This question comes from Christine in our Facebook Community about stitching on linen.
I’m just getting back into stitching and want to try stitching on linen but I read that you don’t use a hoop when stitching on linen. Do you use a hoop?
First of all, always great to see someone getting back into stitching! 🙂
Yes, you can use a hoop, a Q-Snap, a scroll frame, etc, whatever you’re most comfortable with.
I do recommend taking the hoop or Q-Snap
off when you’re not stitching on it to avoid hoop marks and fabric distortion.
Also, if you’re using a hoop you’ll probably want to play with the tension a bit before you begin stitching as linen is more prone to distortion than aida fabric and will stretch in all sorts of funny ways if the tension is too much.
I do find that a Q-Snap offers a more even tension than a hoop, especially when using a quirky linen with the tendency to distort easily.
Happy Stitching!
