Getting to Know the Stitching Community: Laurel

LaurelPIt’s time to get to know some more stitchers in the community. This week we’re getting to know Laurel. I just shared her finished Ornament Club piece the other day and you might also recognize her from her blog, “Cherished Creations” – everyone counts, where she frequently shows off her WIPs and finished stitching.

Let’s get right into the stitching questions with Laurel….

What’s your favorite type of cross stitch project to work on?

I love making ornaments, they’re quick and easy. I have 2 that I’m working on now. One is by Mill Hill and the other is Pine Glen Designs.

Do you have a favorite designer?

I have several, but who doesn’t? I would have to say……Cheryl Granda of Glendon Place….but I love so many!!!!

How big is your cross stitching stash?

What I think may be a big stash might be tiny compared to others but I don’t think it’s big enough!!! I have over 100 pieces of fabric, including PTPlus, several towels, place mats, bread covers, bibs, etc…

How long have you been stitching? How did you learn?

I’ve been stitching off and on for over 30 years which I didn’t realize until my mother sent me 2 pieces of stamped cross stitch that I had done when I was 11 and 12 yrs old. WOW, not the best but I’m proud even at the age of 49.

I taught myself. My mom is an excellent seamstress and makes beautiful quilts, my sister has also cross stitched in the past, not so much anymore since she has a daughter that keeps her busy.

Do you have any “in real life friends” to share your stitching with in person, or maybe a local stitch-n-bitch with a local stitch group?
Tell us about so we can be jealous

Not nearby. I have a good friend back in my hometown(Texas) that appreciates the craft and we often would spend a Sat or Sun watching a movie and stitch, I miss that! I live in Illinois now and no one in my small circle of family really gets into it.

LaurelsLabCrossStitchWhat project finish are you most proud of?

I’m proud of this one because it looks like my Bristol (my black lab). I got the pattern from patternsonline. I have a photo of her as a puppy that I would like to make into a pattern and stitch….(sigh)someday!

Bonus question: Add anything you’d like to share here about stitching!

I’ve seen sooooo many beautiful WIP’s and finished pieces from so many talented people from everywhere. My simple moto is “Everybody Counts”

Make sure you head over to Laurel’s blog and say hello there as well.

Happy Stitching!
Loretta
