Affectionately known as the TUSAL ~ a stitch-a-long where progress is shown by display of your ort jar. I had made a note to join this SAL at the beginning of the year, and then promptly got distracted. And of course I remembered after I emptied my ort jar. So here I am starting with a fresh and empty ort jar….
Ort: those little scraps of thread and whatnot that are left when you snip and trim and finish up stitching a length of thread.
My ort jar is actually from a jar of jam. It was just such a cute little glass jar that I couldn’t toss it in the recycle bin. I actually have a few of these. I meant to make candles or something in them, but they ended up getting used for orts and other little randomness.

Why do you keep them? What do you do with them? I just throw them away as I cross-stitch. Am I doing it wrong?
Nothing in particular. Sometimes I add ours to our “bird bits” hangers we put out in the spring with bits of thread and fabric for birds to use in their nest. Other stitchers use them to as part of the stuffing when they make a pincushion or other stuffed item. I’ve seen a few people stuff the year’s worth into those clear ornament balls at Christmas time and mark it with the year as sort of a memory of the accomplishments for that year.
