Stitching Bloggers Blog Hop #4: Society Assumes

Stitching Bloggers

Wow, we’re on the 4th blog hop already! I want to pause for a moment and thank everyone who has participated in this little experiment – I absolutely enjoy reading every single post. I hope that you’ve found some new blogs, made some new friends, and been inspired in new ways as a result of the stitching blog hop. Okay, enough with the mushiness from me… let’s get to it!

I find that people often assume just because I’m crafty and creative that I’m also “housewifey” – and let me just say here and now that it really burns my biscuits. I smile and do my best to be polite with people, but seriously it’s 2012 and most women are not your typical “housewife.” Right? Men can cross stitch – and they do so wonderfully! Guess what else men can do? They can cook and clean and do laundry. *gasp! the horror!*

So my blog prompt question for you is a few parts and it goes something like this:

Do you experience this same assumption from society in general that just because you’re being crafty you’re also driven by some unseen force to be in constant 1950s housewife mode? and then…. Who actually does the cooking and the cleaning in the household? I’d also really like to hear some words from the men in the crowd who stitch on this topic. What sort of societal reactions do you get and what ridiculously wrong assumptions do people make towards you when they see you working on needlework?

All right, let’s have some fun. I’m looking forward to hearing what everyone has to say about this topic. As a side note: I hope I worded my prompt well – I confess, I had dental surgery this week and I’m a little fuzzy in the brain right now from the medication they gave me.

How To Participate

To participate simply write a blog post on your own blog about the above topic and then at the end include this piece of code to display the link widget.

Including this on each participant’s response makes it easy for readers to “hop” from blog to blog to read about the topic, leave comments, and meet new bloggers.

After you’ve blogged your response just enter the link to your blog post here:
**note** Enter the direct link to your response, not the link to your blog’s homepage. That way blog hoppers will go straight to your response in this edition of the blog hop.

This blog hop’s link widget has been closed.

Use our banner (optional):

Including the banner on your post is optional, but appreciated as it helps identify the post as a blog hop posting and links to the category here on the site so others can click through and participate as well. You can just copy and paste this code to display the banner like I have at the top of this post:

Or if you prefer you can just link to the blog hop post from your response post. Either way, a link is always appreciated 🙂

Stitching Bloggers Blog Hop at STNA will be twice a month, on the 1st and 15th of each month. Be sure you’re on our newsletter list and you’ll get a reminder for each posting.

I look forward to seeing everyone’s responses for this round! Happy blogging and stitching 🙂
Loretta
