Getting to Know the Stitching Community: Joy

Our next new contributor here Stitching the Night Away is Joy and I thought we’d get to know her a little bit before she gets busy posting fun new things. I love these stitchy community interviews 🙂

Let’s talk some stitching with Joy 😉

What’s your favorite type of cross stitch project to work on?

I prefer smaller projects because they are faster to stitch and generally easy to finish. Lately, I’ve really liked stitching projects with beads in it.

It’s funny how these little trends pop up, lately I’ve noticed quite a few of us in the STNA Facebook community are stitching beaded projects, myself included.

Do you have a favorite designer?

I’ve always admired Dragon Dreams designs but I haven’t stitched that many of them.

I <3 Dragon Dreams, I even have a few autographed charts in my stash ~shout out to Jennifer Aikman-Smith for her dragony awesomeness~ How big is your stitching stash?

Not terribly large. A box of patterns, a box of kits, 4 huge binders of cross stitch mags from the late 80s/early 90s, some random fabric and three bobbin boxes of DMC

How long have you been stitching? How did you learn?

I started stitching when I was 16. I had my wisdom teeth out and my mom bought me one of those Learn-a-Craft kits. So I’ve been stitching for 11 years or so.

Do you have any “in real life friends” to share your stitching with in person, or maybe a local stitch-n-bitch with a local stitch group?

No, only virtual friends.

I always say virtual friends are the best because I don’t have to clean the house to have a visit with them 😉

What project finish are you most proud of?

Amazing Grace Janlynn Kit Stitched by Joy

This is the second thing I ever stitched. It took me over 6 months to stitch. I made it for my mother because “Amazing Grace” is her favorite hymn. It was really really ambitious for a second ever project.

That is a really lovely gift!

Bonus question: Add anything you’d like to share here about stitching…

It’s really fun to stitch things that you’ve designed yourself.

I agree with that completely! Some of my favorite projects are things that I charted myself (and shared here on the site) it’s like an extension of the whole stitching process, lots of fun.

Thank you for sharing your stitching with us today, Joy! We look forward to your blog contributions here in the near future as well 🙂

Everyone, please welcome Joy as a contributing author here at Stitching the Night Away and take a minute to hop by her blog and her Facebook page to leave a thumbs up or a comment.

Hello everyone. Tonight I am talking about my other crafty passion besides cross stitching at the local public library: loom knitting. I hope some people actually show up…

Speaking of beads, my current project has been working on Christian monograms because we want to do our Christmas tree in all Christian symbols and but I decided I needed a break. So, I picked up this Christmas Mill Hill kit that I found at SCRAP for $2.50 and I was sorting the beads and….I spilled the champagne and gold petite beads on the white carpet. Can we say aieeeeee!?

I think I got them all. The 20 month old will find them if I didn’t.
