My Favorite Cross Stitch Supplies & Tools

Here you will find all my favorite bits and bobbles that you might need during your cross stitch experience; everything you need to cross stitch from floss to scissors, and more. There is no right or wrong when it comes to your cross stitch supplies ~ use what you’re comfortable with and what makes you happy with your stitching. While these are the things that I use and enjoy having, you may find yourself favoring different items or different brands of a similar thing.

John James Needles Size 26

Cross Stitch Needles

  • All of my needles are currently John James brand. Up until I switched to these, my needles were always breaking, bending, and tarnishing. I usually keep sizes 24, 26, and 28 on hand.

Fabrics for Cross Stitching

These are my three favorite evenweaves for cross stitch:

  • Wichelt Imports Jobelan Fabric
  • Zweigart Jubilee Fabric
  • Zweigart Lugana Fabric

I also really like hand-dyed fabrics! Actually, most of my stash is hand-dyed fabric.
Right now, my favorites come from: Ship’s Manor and Hand Dyed Fabrics by Stephanie

Embroidery Hoops, Qsnaps, and Scroll Frames

I know some stitchers prefer just one of these things, but I use a variety of all of them, depending on the project size, the fabric I’m using, and my mood that day.

Cross Stitch Stands

Having a stand hold your work allows you to stitch with both hands and helps avoid hand cramping.

Embroidery Scissors and Other Tools

You can never have enough pretty scissors 🙂

Counting Pins to Help Find and Keep Your Place

If you’ve never used counting pins in your cross stitch before, we have some great tips and instructions here on the blog.

Good Lighting Makes a Huge Difference

While a lamp isn’t necessarily part of your cross stitch supplies, it’s definitely a huge helper to have in your work space so you can avoid eye strain and see your fabric clearly.
