I want to take a little time each week to get to know the members of the stitching community as a whole, stitchers, designers, enthusiasts, we all love needlework and we all are passionate about what we do. Let’s share our passion and get to know each other a little better.
This week we’re getting to know Rhonda Chamberlain, an active member of our Stitching the Night Away Facebook Community and a brilliant stitcher with some enviable finished cross stitch projects under her belt.

Now, let’s get on to the stitching questions…
What’s your favorite type of cross stitch project to work on?
Anything! Most of my projects are given as gifts in the form of wall pictures, pillows, stitched shirts, even afghans.
Do you have a favorite designer?
Not really any specific designer. I do like Teresa Wentzler, Sue Hillis, Mirabilia, and Stoney Creek designs.
How big is your stitching stash?
I don’t really know because it’s all over the house, but I have one under-the-bed tote full of fabric and kits, 5 Darice bobbin boxes full of floss PLUS a few resealable bags of extra floss skeins, about 5 UFOs lying around the house, along with two huge binders full of patterns.
I’m sure a lot of us can relate to having stash all over the house!
How long have you been stitching? How did you learn?
I’ve been stitching for over 30 years since I taught myself at the age of 12 or 13 with a little kit.
I love how many of us are self taught!
Do you have any “in real life friends” to share your stitching with in person, or maybe a local stitch-n-bitch with a local stitch group? Tell us about so we can be jealous!
My BFF was a stitcher until she suffered an eye injury. I developed online friendships with several sweet ladies and those relationships have turned into quite a few IRL friendships,even though we’ve never met. We have exchanges, send gifts, and communicate online and through snail mail. Otherwise I’m a “loner.”
I think a lot of stitchers can totally relate to this!
What project finish are you most proud of?
So far, it’s “The Promise”. It has a special meaning to me, linked to the loss of a beloved grandfather. It’s 12″ x 16″.

Stitching maintains my sanity during the dreary winter months here in snowy Michigan. I’m teaching my daughter to stitch, AND, even though I’ve been stitching for over 30 years, I am still learning new things all the time!
I have to say that I agree with that last bit about sanity. Stitching for me is like therapy, it keeps me level and sane and my frustrations just melt away when I’m stitching. Cheaper than a shrink anyway -lol- 😉

It IS beautiful! How did you finish yours? I’m still trying to decide whether to have it matted and framed or incorporated into a quilt.

Beautiful design and kudos to those who have stitched it. It would take me years to finish. LOL
Actually, it took me about 4 – 5 months to do, and I can only stitch an hour or two a day at most. I found that once I “set” the eagle’s base colors in place, the rest of it seemed to go quickly. The eagle and rainbow are cross-stitched; MUCH of the rest of it are half cross-stitches.

I’m currently working on a wedding sampler for my son who was married yesterday. He married a cross stitcher! How sweet is that!?
I believe it took me around 8 months to finish and I was working a full time job plus being a single parent. The only time I worked on it was at night once the kids were in bed. But I have to say that it was well worth it!!!
Lovely work, I think most stitchers can relate to not having anyone close by that stitches. I think its adorable that your son married a stitcher!
