What’s your favorite type of cross stitch project to work on?
I love cross-stitch with beadwork. I love working on linen and with specialty threads; like kreinik, rayon, metallics and anything that’s not regular cotton.
Do you have a favorite designer?
I love Mill Hill kits, because of the beads, but my absolute favorite designer is Nora Corbett.
How big is your stitching stash?
I have a ridiculous amount of fabric. I inherited both my Grandmother’s and Mother’s fabric stashes. Of just the fabric I got from them I think I have an entire Queen sized comforter bag full. I have at least a medium sized tote full of individual bags of different colors of linen. As for threads: I have many ziplock bags of Kreinik threads and a briefcase sized case of organized DMC threads.
How long have you been stitching? How did you learn to stitch?
Both my Grandmother and Mother did many different crafts and both did cross-stitch. I have been doing cross-stitch for 30 years. I remember the first kit I did, one of those small beginner’s kit from Michaels or another craft store.
Do you watch television or listen to music (or podcasts) when you stitch; what’s your favorite way to fill the sound void?
I love watching movies or anime while I stitch. Usually something in the horror genre.
Slightly related, but non-stitchy question: What are you currently reading and/or binge watching?
I’m in school so unfortunately what I’m mostly reading text books. The last book I read was MEG by Steve Alten. As for shows, I just caught up on Criminal Minds and am looking forward to the new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race
Other than your current project and favorite needle, what is one thing you must have while stitching?
Usually my favorite pair of scissors that my Grandmother bought me and a good movie or tv show on.
Do you have any “in real life friends” to share your stitching with in person, or maybe a local get together with a local stitch group?
I don’t have any stitch groups but I have my friend Erin that loves stitching like I do.
What stitched project finish are you most proud of?
The piece that I am most proud of is Birdwatcher by C. Harper. It is done on 32ct linen.
I know you sell some really cool crafts on Etsy and do shows from time to time. What’s your favorite thing about selling at shows / in-person versus online?
I love selling at craft shows, I love greeting the people and getting feedback on my products. When people tell me what they like, or don’t like, I get new ideas on what I could add to my stock of products. I have met some incredible and interesting people while working shows. 🙂
Tell us a bit more about your Etsy shop and the items you sell there.
I sell mostly beadwork jewelry (earrings, necklaces and rings) and cat toys on my etsy page. My biggest seller on there has been my beaded earrings. I love making them. 🙂
Big thank you to Kat for joining us and sharing her stitchy goodness 🙂

Kat,
I dont want to start a business, but my thought would be this – I want to cross stitch for a living, not selling designs or packs of things, but I wanted to cross stitch for those that have a project, want to have it cross stitched by someone else to give as a gift. Where do you think i should start with that idea? or maybe there is already something out there that I could research. Do you have any ideas on this? Thanks, Terry
